Get up and RIDE again…
When you fall, get back up! As Sylvester Stallone said in the movie Rocky Balboa, “It’s not about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. How much you can take and keep moving forward.” It doesn’t matter how good you are at your sport, skiing/snowboarding, mountain biking, rock climbing etc. You’re going to fall and fall hard. When you do fall learning that new trick, it’s up to you to choose what you do with that pain. Are you going to call it a day, never try that trick again or are you going to get back up, brush it off and try again and again until you finally succeed? Resilience is what sets the legends apart from the rest. When you fall, use it as a learning experience, so you can succeed on your next attempt. This too transfers into real estate. Say you get turned down from a listing presentation, do you just stop looking and go on unemployment or do you forget about that loss and go apply for three more listings? As the saying goes “when one door shuts, another will open.” That never-give-up attitude has taken me a long way in my career, home life, and free time.
MTB has also taught me tenacity. The ability to learn from my mistakes and get up and ride again is a vital life skill when you are a in a service industry like real estate. Learning that failure is not the end, but part of the learning experience has far-reaching implications, improving my self-esteem, my resilience, my mental agility, and the quality of service I provide my clients.
MTB has taught me discipline. Motivation is finite but my capacity for motivation is bolstered every time I ride, especially when I don’t feel like it. I know I am working towards a greater reward, not just riding for fun, but to keep myself fit, agile and at the top of my game.
No matter how hard you fall, get back up and keep putting one foot in front of the other till you cross that finish line.
